Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a powerful naturally occurring substance that is the primary defense weapon produced by white blood cells of the human body. HOCl serves multiple important functions in humans, beginning with fighting off all types of infections and inactivating pathogens, reducing inflammation and triggering a series of biochemical chain reactions to stimulate rapid wound healing.

HOCl is one of the most powerful disinfectants known today with many significant advantages compared to other commercial disinfectant products. Disinfectants containing bleach, quats, and peroxide are not only more toxic than HOCl, but they are also considerably less effective. HOCl is a non-toxic complete spectrum disinfectant that is highly effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores.

HOCl selectively binds with the unsaturated lipid bilayer of cells and subsequently disrupts the cellular integrity of organisms such as bacteria. The parameters that influence the disinfectant properties of HOCl include the contact time of the substance with contaminated surfaces and the concentration of the HOCl utilized. Published studies have found that HOCl has been found to inactivate a virus, including coronavirus, in less than 1 minute for example. The concentration of HOCl is usually measured as parts per million (PPM). The higher the PPM, the stronger it is.
